Jaime Nubiola and Sara Barrena, from the School of Philosophy y Letras, have published the book"Los viajes europeos de Charles S. Peirce, 1870-1883". Edited by EUNSA (Ediciones Universidad de Navarra), it is the culmination of a work developed during the last fifteen years in the framework of the group of programs of study Peirceanos of the University of Navarra.

The work, which has received public and private funding, presents the extensive correspondence that the American scientist and philosopher Charles S. Peirce (1839-1914) maintained throughout the five trips he made through Europe between 1870 and 1883. These trips, closely linked to his activity as a scientist in the United States Coast Survey, made it possible for Peirce to enter contact with prominent European researchers and acquire an international prestige B .

As Professor Nubiola, Full Professor of Philosophy and coordinator of group, has pointed out, "The study of these letters, which until now had not been given due attention, is of great relevance for a better understanding of Peirce's biography". As he explained, "sample, moreover, the enormous influence of the European years -of the "cosmopolitan period" of his life- in the evolution of his thought, and even in the genesis of some of his theories." "These letters - which now see the light of day for the first time - not only provide a more realistic and human image of Charles S. Peirce, but also shed decisive light on many points of his thought, in particular on his conception of science and aesthetics," she adds.

The book can be purchased at the following link, both in paper and digital version.
