José Alejandro García is a Guatemalan priest, student of the licentiate degree de Canon Law. He is finishing his second semester at the University of Navarra. He comes from the Diocese of Santa Rosa de Lima, in Guatemala City. There he has been pastor in three churches with different social realities throughout his nine years of priesthood. "When I return to my diocese I want to continue serving the Church, in the mission statement that is entrusted to me", he assures.

When he arrived in Spain on August 28, 2018, he was starting from scratch in a country and a city unknown to him, with a different culture and way of life. However, "the fear I felt before arriving was overcome by the fraternity, kindness and understanding of the priests and teachers, both at residency program and at School". He spends his free time walking around and getting to know places. He has visited the town of Javier and the sanctuaries of Fatima, Lourdes and Torreciudad.

José Alejandro is the eldest of four brothers. He discovered his priestly vocation when he was 19 years old because a lay friend of his told him about the priesthood. "He said to me, 'Have you never considered a priestly vocation?' The question echoed in my mind, over and over again. So, after being accompanied in spiritual direction by a priest, I thought: 'This is my thing. I was very excited, with fear and trembling I said in my prayer 'Here I am Lord, I want to serve you'".

Two years after that conversation, in 2002 he resigned from his work and personal projects and decided to join the Interdiocesan Major Interdiocesan Our Lady of the Assumption seminar , in Guatemala. He was formed there until 2010. He recalls that, although with surprise, the news was received among his family and friends with great joy; and he relates that one of the most beautiful experiences he has lived throughout these years of priesthood has been to be able to be their spiritual advisor, to witness the sacrament of marriage and to baptize the children of his friends.

Since before entering seminar he has had a special devotion to Our Lady of the Rosary and to two priests: St. Josemaría, founder of Opus Dei, and the Guatemalan priest and servant of God, Hermógenes López.

He feels very grateful for the financial aid he has received for his formation. He assures that it is necessary for priests to be true vocation promoters. He also recalls the importance of spouses praying for the vocation of their children. He concluded by recalling the words of St. John Bosco: "The best gift that God can give to a family is a priest son".
