Last May 9, the presentation of the book Gombrich: A Theory of Art (Edinburgh University Press, 2023) took place at the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra.

The book was presented by the team publishing house formed by the professor of the School of Theology, Juan Luis Lorda; the emeritus professor of the School of Architecture, María Antonia Frías; and the professor of the School of Architecture, María Angélica Martínez, who heads it and is manager of the edition. The ceremony, which was attended by academics, artists, professors, students and alumni, family and friends of Professor Lorda, was presided over by the director of the School of Architecture, Carlos Naya

In the presentation, the professors recalled that the project publishing house arose in the framework of the In memoriam tribute to Professor Joaquín Lorda in October 2017, led and prepared by those members of the group of research ART T&H(Architectural Research Team, Theory and History) of the University of Navarra, as the best recognition that could be made to the professor.

The project was financially supported by the University of Navarra, by the School of Architecture and by the Lorda family. It involved a complete revision of the original work, and the necessary substitution of notes and bibliography, for English editions, in which the PhD student of the School of Architecture and team member publishing house Ramón Alemany collaborated fundamentally. Seventeen images illustrating Spanish art and architecture were also included. "The translation, which was position by Tim Nicholson (TISA), faithfully maintains the author's style and academic rigor. The completion of this work led to the publication of the second revised edition in Spanish Gombrich: una teoría del arte (EUNSA, 2021)," explains María Angélica Martínez.

The initiative was supported by Professor Emeritus Richard Woodfield, an expert in E. H. Gombrich's programs of study and publisher of the Journal of Art Historiography, Studies in Art Historiography (Routledge) and Gombrich Essential (Phaidon). The relevance of the publication in English and its dissemination in the English-speaking world was also endorsed by academics in the United Kingdom and welcomed under the imprint of the Refractions series of Edinburgh University Press

"The careful edition presents a cover with a design of a stylized Hobby-Horse, the sympathetic figure with which the prestigious historian E. H. Gombrich and Professor Lorda accompanied the constant and friendly correspondence they maintained for years; this communication allowed the great depth and understanding of the professor's programs of study that is now possible to read in English", assures María Angélica Martínez.
