More than 120 children between the ages of 9 and 18 participate in the project soccer base that depends on the Sports Club of the University of Navarra. They are children and young people from a dozen schools in Pamplona and the region who recently gathered at a welcome workshop at sports center. The families of these athletes then attended a talk with the Vice President Alumni, Tomás Gómez Acebo, and the director Sports ServiceJavier Trigo. Both emphasized that, beyond the sports internship , the project of grassroots soccer also has a goal educational .    

"We consider that sport is an essential part of the university training but also of the person," said Tomás Gómez-Acebo. The Vice-Rector for Students emphasized that, in addition to playing sports, "the aim is for these young people to acquire certain values".

"It's a project between parents and the University," Javier Trigo then intervened. "We want your children to play sports and we also want them to make a commitment. The commitment to come to training, to come to the games even if they don't play. We want them to feel that they are part of the university. That they represent the University of Navarra. Along the same lines, the technical director of project, Gregorio Mañeru, said that sport "was a magnificent educational tool ". 

The grassroots soccer program was created three years ago by Asdefor, a association promoted by the former student of the university, Roberto Ramos. Today it depends on the University of Navarra Sports Club and has six teams: youth, cadet, two infants and two juveniles, which compete in different regional categories.
