José María Bastero and Francisco Errasti received the Gold Medal of the University of Navarra during the 2012-2013 academic year official opening of the academic year . With these, there are 22 Gold Medals awarded since 1990, the highest distinction in recognition of services rendered to the University.
graduate Francisco Errasti (Oñati, 1946) started up research center Médica Aplicada (CIMA), of which he has been the general manager since 2003 at director .
Currently, he combines this position with the promotion of another research center: the high school of Tropical Health (IST). He is also president of Acunsa and was director general of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra from 1984 to 1997.
"I have been and am happy thanks to this University and the wonderful people who work in it," said Francisco Errasti. In that sense, he wanted to dedicate his medal to all the professionals of campus -among professors, doctors, nurses, employees and staff cleaners- who serve and have served the University with "fidelity" for decades.
"As our Founder, St. Josemaría, used to say when he received decorations for the social or charitable work of the corporate works of Opus Dei, "the blood of the soldier makes the captain great," he recalled.
Doctor in Naval Engineering and Full Professor of Mechanics, José María Bastero (Bermeo, 1942) is president of the association of Friends of the University. He has been President (1996-2005) and twice Vice President of research. In 1978 he was appointed director of the School of Engineers of San Sebastian, position which he combined with that of director of the Center of programs of study and Technical Research of Gipuzkoa (CEIT), since 1982.
José María Bastero wanted to express his deep gratitude to Chancellor for the Gold Medal: "This gratitude joins that which I owe him for the financial aid that he gave me during the nine years that I was President of this University".
This distinction," said Professor Bastero, "is a grace, a gift, and in every gift the true protagonist is not the one who receives it - so many times an indigent recipient, without any merit - but the one who gives it, since every grace always makes clear the magnanimity of the donor".
In addition to Francisco Errasti and José María Bastero, other recipients of the Gold Medal include Eduardo Ortiz de Landázuri, Ismael Sánchez Bella, Juan Jiménez Vargas, Álvaro d'Ors, Francisco Ponz, Amadeo de Fuenmayor, Carmen López, Joaquín Casellas, Félix Álvarez de la Vega, José Cañadell, Jesús Vázquez, Antonio Valero, Alfonso Nieto, the association de Amigos, Carlos Cavallé, Mª Pilar Fernández Otero, Natalia López Moratalla, Lucas Francisco Mateo-Seco, Mª Teresa Igúzquiza and Alejandro Llano.
