"The Pope has faced the problems of abuse of minors with an admirable decision, putting the scalpel in depth, with respect, with sincerity, preparing us so that there are no cases of this kind and facing the dialogue with the victims". This was stated at the University of Navarra by the Cardinal and Archbishop of Valladolid, Ricardo Blázquez. His statements were made during the inauguration of the Course of update "The protection of minors in the Church. Other current issues", organized in the School of Canon Law and with the participation of more than 200 people.

In his message, he expressed some impressions that he got from the meeting that he held in February this year with Pope Francis and the presidents of the Bishops' Conferences of the world, at the summit against pederasty. Of this he said that "it is a gesture that shows the courage and humility of the Church to face these issues openly and at the same time is unprecedented and unprecedented in any institution".

Of this summit, in which experts from different fields and victims also participated, he emphasized the atmosphere "permeated with admiration, feeling and responsibility", as well as the surprise he felt at the fact that these problems "had been hidden in the Church, in society and in families, in a very studied way", and that at the same time "there had been a humiliating silence".

February 2019 anti-pedophilia summit: time for change.

The president of the Episcopal lecture defined this meeting as a moment of purification of the Church, in which many points of view converged "to what happened, to the victims or the future perspectives, for the Education and to change the pastoral action in front of the finding of these abuses".

He also reproduced the most significant paragraphs of the speech that the Pope pronounced at the end of the conference. He recalled that abuse is a transversal problem that is verified in all areas and assured that the Pope recognizes that it is even more serious and scandalous in the Church because it contrasts with the mandate of Jesus. He also highlighted a report made for the German government recently after the cases of abuse in two educational centers became known. It said that 80% of the abuses occurred in the family environment, 17% in the area of educational and sports and 3% in the area of evangelical and Catholic churches.

After recalling the words of the Supreme Pontiff, he said that the forgiveness of sins by God "does not exempt from the crimes committed and that God's forgiveness cannot be paved with impunity". Before concluding, he emphasized the different forms of silence that exist: "The silence that edifies the person, the professional silence that respects the word freely confessed and the third silence known as the 'weapon of the tyrant' that abuses its power and chains the person who is abused".
