The GRISO organizes in Delhi the I Ibero-Asian Hispanists congress

Held at partnership with the University of Delhi and the high school Spanish and Leon language, it brought together more than 100 professors from 21 countries.

The group of research Siglo de Oro (GRISO) of the University of Navarra, the University of Delhi and the high school Spanish y Leonés de la language have organized the I Ibero-Asian congress of Hispanists Siglo de Oro and Hispanism in general, recently held in Delhi. The meeting, under the direction of Ignacio Arellano (GRISO) and Vibha Maurya (University of Delhi), was attended by more than a hundred speakers from 21 countries: Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, South Korea, Costa Rica, Egypt, Spain, the United States, France, India, England, Iran, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Senegal, Taiwan and Turkey.

The opening of this meeting, the largest meeting of Hispanism ever held in India, was presided over by the Ambassador of Spain, Ion de la Riva, who highlighted the fruitful and continuous partnership of the GRISO with various Indian universities. In addition to its international character, the congress had a markedly interdisciplinary approach , with papers from the fields of literature, linguistics, history, art, sociology, etc. The School of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Navarra was represented by Ignacio Arellano, Álvaro Baráibar and Carlos Mata Induráin, from GRISO, and Inés Olza, from GRADUN. Also in attendance was Fr. Carlos Agulló, delegate of Navarra in India.

The meeting counted with the partnership of several institutions, among others the project "Patrimonio teatral clásico español. Texts and instruments of research (TC-12)", sponsored by the CONSOLIDER-INGENIO Program of the National Plan of research and development+I (CSD2009-00033) of the Ministry of Science and Innovation of the Government of Spain or the Library Services Virtual Miguel de Cervantes, and also the Embassy of Spain in India and the high school Cervantes of New Delhi.

Precisely, at the headquarters of high school Cervantes took place the presentation of several GRISO books: the Hindi translations of Lazarillo de Tormes and Historia de la literatura española del Siglo de Oro, by Ignacio Arellano, prepared by Sabyasachi Mishra; and the volume East and West. Exploring Cultural Manifestations, edited by Kala Acharya, Ignacio Arellano et. al., which constitutes the conference proceedings of the international congress on interreligious dialogue held in Bombay in September 2009, organized by GRISO and K. J. Somaiya Bharatiya Sanskriti Peetham. At the same academic event, the exhibition "Swagatam. Photographs of India", by Santiago Fernández Mosquera and Salvador Arellano, which has been installed at the high school Cervantes in New Delhi.
