A project in which students from the University collaborate, awarded in the X Awards to the University volunteer activities of the Mutua Madrileña Foundation.

More than 1,500 students from 58 universities in Spain participated in the competition.

The project of volunteer activities "Saving lives", in which 351 students of the University of Navarra from Degrees in Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing participate, in partnership with Tantaka, has obtained the second place in the X Awards to the volunteer activities University, granted by the Mutua Madrileña Foundation

Volunteers from project, in which students from the University of Barcelona also participate, give theoretical and practical workshops on first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation maneuvers in schools and institutes in Navarra and Barcelona, with the purpose to teach young people how to act in an emergency. Thanks to this project, which started in 2016, more than 12,000 children from 40 schools in Navarra (Pamplona, Tafalla and Tudela) have been trained.  

The initiative also extends to India and Peru, where group students travel annually to give basic first aid workshops. Volunteers also carry out awareness-raising activities with the local population on the need to adopt hygiene measures to prevent infectious diseases, which are responsible for a high percentage of infant mortality in these countries.

This initiative has been selected from a total of 53 candidatures in which more than 1,500 students from 58 Spanish universities and 49 NGOs have participated. goal The Mutua Madrileña Foundation has been promoting these Awards for ten years with the aim of recognizing and making visible the spirit of solidarity of young Spanish university students and contributing to the financial support of their projects at volunteer activities.

From among all the projects submitted, the Mutua Madrileña Foundation has awarded six initiatives among which it has distributed 35,000 euros (10,000 euros for the winner and 5,000 euros for the other five finalists).

The return to face-to-face classrooms after the pandemic has had a positive impact on the activity of volunteer activities in universities. According to the X Study on University volunteer activities , carried out by the Mutua Madrileña Foundation, the issue of university students carrying out volunteer activities actions grew by 60% during the 2021-2022 academic year, to over 16,900 students.

The number of solidarity projects undertaken by these institutions has also grown. Thus, seven out of ten universities promoted more initiatives than in the previous year, with more than 2,100 programs.
