Jaime Nubiola, Full Professor emeritus of the University, first Spanish philosopher awarded by the Society of American Philosophy
Promoted the research on the American philosopher Charles S. Peirce.
Jaime Nubiola, Full Professor emeritus of the School of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Navarra, has been awarded the Herbert Schneider Awarda award awarded by the "Society for the Advancement of American Philosophy (SAAP)" (Society for the Advancement of American Philosophy Philosophy ).
He is the first Spanish philosopher to receive this distinction, with which the American Society has wanted to recognize "the achievement of a whole degree program of distinguished contributions to the understanding of the American Philosophy ".
As noted by Lee A. McBride III, president of SAAP, Professor Nubiola's name thus joins a list of renowned figures from the American Philosophy that includes, among others, Joseph Blau, Justus Buchler, Max H. Fisch, Charles Hartshorne, John J. McDermott, Beth J. Singer, Sandra B. Rosenthal, Charlene Haddock Seigfried, Hilary Putnam and Ruth Anna Putnam, Richard Bernstein, and Vincent Colapietro. The award will be presented at the annual SAAP congress , to be held in March 2025 in Washington, D.C. Professor Ivo Ibri, from São Paulo (Brazil), will also receive the award.
In 2023, 45 years after arriving at the University of Navarra, Jaime Nubiola said goodbye to his classrooms. During his professional career, he focused his research on the figure and thought of the American scientist and philosopher Charles S. Peirce. In 1994 he promoted the group de programs of study Peirceanos, which he directed until his retirement, to promote the study of his work and the translation of his texts to Spanish. He has been president of the Charles S. Peirce Society (2008) and was the chairman of the Charles S. Peirce International Centennial Congress, held in Lowell, MA, in 2014.
