44 students take part in the Navarre edition of the Incubadora de Sondeos y Experimentos contest

It was organised by the University of Navarra and the Public University of Navarra, together with other entities.

44 students from Education Compulsory Secondary Education (ESO), high school diploma and training Professional (FP), from five schools, have participated in the 2019-2020 Navarre edition of the Incubator of Probes and Experiments Contest, held virtually.

 This competition seeks to awaken in the student body curiosity for statistics as a basic tool for the research. It is organized by the Unit of Science of data of the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) of the University of Navarra and the department of Statistics, Computer Science and Mathematics of the Public University of Navarra (UPNA). 

In the 1st-2nd ESO category,Leyre Mendivil, Irache Yabar, Ángela Gurpegui and Clara Asensio, from high school Calasanz-Escolapios, won the first prize award for the work 'Hábitos nutricionales' (Nutritional habits). Their tutor was Antonio Yániz. The second prize went to Irene Iribarren, Irati Larraya, Alba Ochoa and Yaiza Soldado, from high school Santa María la Real (Maristas-Sarriguren), for 'Emancipación y visión actual de la juventud'. Their tutor was Gema Muñoz. The third prize went to Laura Orbara, Natalia Cereceda and Ainara Altuna, from high school Calasanz-Escolapios, for 'Series and movies'. Antonio Yániz was their tutor.

In the category 3º-4º of ESO, the winning work was 'Consumption of photocopies in IES Benjamín de Tudela', made by Paula López, Salma Mestassi and Aitana Ballabriga, under the supervision of J. Carlos Ballabriga. And in the category high school diplomaThe winner was 'STEM Stereotypes', prepared by Raúl Carrasco, from IES Padre Moret -Irubide, with María Zabalegui as tutor. 

The rest of the participants presented projects on statistics, probability and operational research on issues such as social networks, plastic, sugar, nutritional habits and the impact of bags on the environment, among others.

The contest is supported by partnership of the Sociedad Navarra de Profesores de Matemáticas "TORNAMIRA" Matematika Irakasleen Nafar Elkartea; of the high school de Estadística de Navarra; and of the department de Education of the Government of Navarra and the provincial delegation of the high school Nacional de Estadística.

The closing of this meeting was attended byJesús López-Fidalgo, director of the Science Unit of data of the ICS and of the high school of Science of data and Artificial Intelligence (DATAI) of the University of Navarra, and president of the Society of Statistics and research Operational (SEIO).
