"We need society to know about our research so that it is adequately funded". This was one of the statements made by Professor María Ujué Moreno, a researcher in the Cardiovascular Diseases Program at research center Applied Medicine at the University of Navarra (CIMA), during the seminar she gave to students, professors and members of the group 'Science, reason and faith' at the academic center.

In his speech, which focused on "research biomedical and personalized medicine in heart failure", he explained that heart failure (HF) is a medical need that presents difficulties in terms of care due to its increasing prevalence, poor prognosis and expense partner -healthcare: "It is the fifth cause of mortality in Spain and is also the leading cause of hospitalization in people over 65 years of age". He also recalled that it is a disease that is difficult to identify because many patients do not go to the doctor thinking that it is an ailment of aging.

He emphasized the need for economic resources for research, given the high mortality rate: "We are not yet at a status where all the parameters are taken into account for treatment to be effective. We must do more research, to learn more".

In this regard, Professor Moreno advocates early and individualized prevention, given that the risk of each person is not the same; early, personalized and precise diagnosis, as in the case of other diseases such as cancer; and specific, safe and effective treatment. To this end, he advocated joint responsibility between patients, researchers, industry, governments and agencies.

Following a postdoctoral fellowship at the BHF-Glasgow Cardiovascular Research Centre, she joined CIMA Cardiovascular Diseases Program. In the Myocardial Remodeling and Heart Failure laboratory she investigates the instructions and cellular instructions of myocardial alterations underlying heart failure to identify mechanisms that enable early diagnosis and specific, effective, and safe treatment of this condition. She is a member of group research group the University of Navarra and the research center en network research center . She is the author of more than 40 indexed articles and collaborates on research and European research projects. She is an adjunct professor at the School of Science.
