The laboratory Permanent of Social Innovation of the Observatory of the Social Reality of Navarra, the department of Migration Policies and Justice of the Government of Navarra and the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) of the University of Navarra are developing a project of research to know in depth the communities of Moroccan origin in Navarra. The data obtained will be used to elaborate lines of action to improve the processes of inclusion and coexistence of these people in the life of the cities and towns where they live.

Specifically, the study focuses on women in the Moroccan communities of the Foral territory and on the second generation, that is, relatives, often born in Spain, of Moroccan migrants. "Through focus groups and qualitative interviews we will get a clearer picture of their characteristics, such as ethnicity, level educational, language skills and educational, social and life expectations," says Sarali Gintsburg, ICS researcher who leads the project.

"We will also establish avenues of dialogue to learn about their vision of how to improve their social, labor, educational and coexistence status , and to discover in what aspects public services could establish measures to improve the processes of inclusion and coexistence in Navarre society," he explains.

Field work in Tudela, Castejon and Cintruenigo.

The work fieldwork will be carried out in Tudela, Castejón and Cintruénigo. From agreement with the reports of the high school of Statistics of Navarre, it is estimated that in the first locality the issue of families is 207, in the second 125 and in the third 113. In total, a sample of 101 family groups will be studied.

The project will feature partnership by Jan Jaap de Ruiter of Tilburg University, an expert in Arabic sociolinguistics with extensive experience of research with the Moroccan community in the Netherlands. The specialist, who has carried out numerous similar practical projects, has offered a 'roadmap' based on Dutch experiences and those of other European researchers to outline aspects such as multiculturalism, integration and language acquisition in first and second generation Moroccan migrants. Also participating in the study are Edgar Benitez, from the Science Unit of data of the ICS, and Assia Farkach, of the institute of modern languages of the University of Navarra.
