Sergio Clavero, PhD student of the project 'Emotional culture and identity' of the Institute for Culture and Society of the University of Navarra, has defended his doctoral thesis , entitled 'Social bond and moral bond in Axel Honneth's theory of recognition'. The researcher has made a double doctorate in Philosophy and Sociology in the framework of a agreement that maintain the University of Navarra and the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, in Milan.
After studying Jon Elster's rational choice theory in his work Fin de Master's Degree , he decided to devote his research doctoral dissertation to delve into the opposite position, namely the rules and regulations conception of the social. This led him to the thought of Axel Honneth, which is based on Hegel's theory of recognition. In particular, he studied the relationship between ties, identity and normativity in order to analyze today's society.
"Elster considers the social bonds of the subject as something external to the subject," he mentions. "Faced with this," he adds, "my director and I found it interesting to delve into the connection between social and moral bonds and to do so from Honneth's perspective, which combines sociology and Philosophy".
In the framework of his thesis , Sergio has made two stays of research at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart.
