Antonia María Rodríguez, nurse at internship Advanced Oncology: "It is important to talk to patients and find out what they really need".

On January 12 began the series "Oncology Nursing" organized by the School of Nursing of the University of Navarra with the goal to publicize the role of the Nurse of internship Advanced in the field of Oncology.

The School of Nursing of the University of Navarra started, last January 12, the cycle "Oncology Nursing: 3 conversations from the internship Advanced". The goal of this cycle focuses on the role of the Advanced internship Nurse in the field of Oncology. In this first session, Antonia María Rodríguez, Advanced internship nurse in Oncology at the Hospital Universitario Torrecárdenas (Almería), talked with María Carrión, Advanced Clinical Nurse in the Pain Unit at the Hospital Universitario Torrecárdenas (Almería), about the competencies of clinical leadership and the role of the Advanced Clinical Nurse in Oncology. During the session, Antonia María Rodríguez told how she got started in advanced internship and how it has helped her in the care of oncology patients. "I had to find out what Advanced internship was and this has helped me to know what a patient really needs, and what I need to be able to take care of them," she explained. She also commented that internship Advanced "financial aid offers personalized care, in which, if the family is included, more favorable results can be achieved".

On the other hand, he also wanted to highlight the proactivity or leadership that a nurse needs in internship Advanced Oncology. "It is important to make a good nursing evaluation , for this you must study your medical history, be in contact with nursing consultations and, above all, go around to talk to patients and know what they really need" he explained.  

Finally, during question time, the importance of the research within the profile of the nurse at internship advanced oncology was also discussed. María Carrión emphasized that "the research allows us to incorporate evidence into the clinical work that we do. For example, we have a pain management program underway to help patients with chronic pain to live with pain and improve their quality of life".

All the sessions are part of the new Master's Degree in internship Advanced Nursing in Oncology of the School that will begin to be taught in Madrid in October 2022.

This lecture series will continue on February 24 in the session "Mentoring and Autonomyinternship "with Ana Rosa Martos, oncology nurse at the Hospital Universitario Virgen de la Victoria in Malaga; Antonio Ramón García, oncology nurse at the Hospital Universitario de Puerto Real, Cádiz; and Jorgina Serra, doctoral student and Advanced Oncology Nurse at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau in Barcelona. 

Finally, on March 11, the "Quality and Patient Safety" session will be held on "management Quality and Patient Safety"will be given by Isabel Mañas, nurse of internship Advanced in Palliative Care in a Palliative Care Support Team in Primary Care (ESCP-AP) in Seville.
