25 researchers have defended their thesis in the School of Pharmacy of the University of Navarra during the academic year 2012-2013. Of these, twelve have developed part of the research in a foreign university or center, among which stand out: University of Cambridge, University of Glasgow, Università di Bologna, Erasmus Medical Center of Holland or Universität des Saarlandes (Germany).
The work is part of one of the programs of doctorate of the School, which include the areas of"Food, Physiology and Health" and"Medicines and Health".
Extraordinary doctorate prizes
On the other hand, the School of Pharmacy has awarded the extraordinary prizes of doctorate, corresponding to the academic year 2012-.
Zinnia Parra-Guillén has described in her study the anti-tumor response of a new vaccine at development for the treatment of cervical cancer. The work, which used data experimental mice, allows on the one hand "to anticipate clinical results in humans" and, on the other hand, contributes "to reduce the high failure rate in late phases of the development of new drugs".
The work of Enrique Domínguez has consisted in the"synthesis of new organoselenical compounds as possible new antitumor agents". Some compounds have been obtained from the research that in chemotherapy, unlike those normally used, are more effective on tumor cells and less aggressive for healthy cells.
Jimena Bravo has investigated coffee grounds and concluded that they can be "a good source of bioactive compounds with antioxidant and genoprotective properties in human cells". Her work also reveals the potential application of coffee grounds in the food and pharmaceutical industry.
