Ramiro Pellitero, professor of the School of Theology at the University of Navarra and Deputy Director of the high school Superior of Religious Sciences, has published a book on the pontificate of Benedict XVI. Under the title degree scroll Al hilo de un pontificado: el gran sí de Dios, the volume presents short texts on the major themes that the Pope has addressed in his five years as head of the Catholic Church, among them the Eucharist, communication and childhood.

For this work, the author has selected articles about Benedict XVI published in various Spanish and foreign media. They relate the Pontiff's teachings to today's culture.

"Greater attention is needed, on the part of public opinion, to the nuclei of this pontificate: the validity of reason and at the same time its need to be open to transcendence, the revolution of love and the learning of a hope that engages us all, especially in favor of the poorest and weakest," he said.

The selfishness of social inequalities

"The Pope's gestures and words," he added, "summon us all to change, as a consequence of love for God and neighbor, so many things that need to be amended.

In this sense, he explained that "the Gospel is a great yes to all that is good, beautiful and noble: to human love, to life in all its stages, to reason and to the most valuable experiences of humanity. The yes to true progress rejects everything that enslaves people, destroys them or at least harms them, such as the selfishness of social inequalities, threats to life or the lack of religious freedom".

Ramiro Pellitero (León, 1956) is a priest and physician. He works in the School of Theology, the high school Superior of Religious Sciences and the Clinic of the University of Navarra. He has recently collaborated in two books published by Eunsa: Devociones de la Virgen: y el amor le dio mil nombres; and La salud mental y sus cuidados, directed by Javier Cabanyes and Miguel Ángel Monge. He has also directed, together with Javier Sesé, director of the ISCR, the edition of La transmisión de la fe en la sociedad contemporánea.
