After finishing his programs of study in Biotechnology, Marcos García wanted to continue his education and decided to take the Master's Degree European University Degree in Food, Nutrition and Metabolism (E-MENU) at School in Pharmacy and Nutrition. "At first I was a bit scared as my training in nutrition was not outstanding. However, one of the things that made me opt for this program the most was the interview I had with Dr. Fermin Milagro. He showed me the programs of study that he was directing and that focused mainly on Genetics, epigenetics, and biomolecular processes related to obesity, something that was much closer to me because of my training as a biotechnologist".

They were also interested in optional subjects that addressed advanced and specialized content in nutrition and molecular metabolism, functional foods, dietary patterns, and their relationship with health based on scientific evidence

Of all the possibilities offered by the Master's Degree, he chose one of the main orientations of the program, the research, which trains the student in the latest trends in the field of food, nutrition and metabolism. In addition, the Study program includes the completion of a work end of Master's Degree in which the student is assigned to a group of research under the supervision of a tutor and in connection with the research conducted in the various groups. "My work end of Master's Degree was to study whether global methylation levels can help predict response to a given dietary intervention," he explains.

International dimension of the program

While at Master's Degree, García attended face-to-face discussion sessions with invited national and international experts on current issues in food, nutrition and health. This international dimension was extended after the program ended, when she continued at department from Food Science and Physiology to pursue her doctoral thesis . "Thanks to the research power of group and the internationalization of the researchers, I undertook a pre-doctoral stay at department Medicine at Karolinska Institutet, directed by Prof. Peter Arner, to specialize in the culture and transfection of primary cultures of human adipocytes."

In January 2019, she joined Dr. Sergio Roa 's group as a postdoctoral researcher , within the department Hemato-Oncology of the Cima University of Navarra. "Since then, I am studying and exploring, both in vivo and in vitro, subject ABC diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (ABC-DLBCLs), focusing mainly on the role of the IL10/STAT3 autocrine cascade in survival signaling and how ABC-DLBCLs evade the anti-tumor action of the immune system."
