Juan Antonio Díaz, professor at School of Medicine at the University of Navarra and specialist in Radiation Oncology at the Clinic, has published Soy médico. Identity staff in the medical internship . The book gathers the symbiosis between the professional plane and staff of the physician with the goal to inspire physicians in their daily internship , as well as to encourage students in their medical preparation.
The presentation took place on Wednesday, October 16 at the high school of Doctors of Madrid and has had a colloquium with the participation of the author, the dean of the School of Medicine, Marta Ferrer, and the vice dean of Academic Innovation, Leire Arbea.
Juan Antonio Díaz, professor of the Medical Education and Clinical training Unit of the School of Medicine, defines the identity of the physician as "a professional and staff alloy that is forged over time and, in order not to break, requires an adequate balance that must be cared for and fostered". In medicine, the professional and the staff embrace, he stresses. "That embrace can be comforting or suffocating, it depends on each one, on how one learns to be a doctor and oneself. The point is to ensure that each dimension makes the other grow, in a two-way relationship: to grow as people and be better at what we like," he says.
project of Medical Identity of the School
The good medical internship , in his opinion, needs many personal qualities to fulfill the purpose of medicine: the good of the patient. In turn, these qualities derive from the two realities of the medical internship : the special relationship with the patient and the knowledge to help him or her. Among them, the author highlights skill, compassion, commitment, integrity, communication, work and team leadership.
As he explains, this book is the result of a long-standing desire to systematically develop in writing the basic ideas behind the project Medical Identity of the School. "I was looking forward to writing this proposal which, it seems to me, reflects the vision of the medical profession of School and which we are trying to make a reality at the Clinic".
Likewise, he hopes that the work will be "a breath of fresh air for many doctors, perhaps bringing back to them the memory of the ideal they wanted to be in order to become one", as well as serving as training for students, "and confirming their enthusiasm, while offering them the foundation of convictions rooted over time".
