Students from IES Benjamín de Tudela, San Cernin and Calasanz will represent Navarra in a national statistics competition.

The University of Navarra hosted the regional phase of the 'Incubator of surveys and experiments', in which 8 teams selected from a total of 35 participated.

Students from IES Benjamín de Tudela, high school San Cernin and high school Calasanz have won the III edition of the Navarra phase of 'Incubadora de sondeos y experimentos', a statistics contest for students. The Institute for Culture and Society (ICS), the research center in Humanities and social sciences of the University of Navarra, has hosted the presentation of the finalist works and the submission of awards.

Thus, the young people will represent the Autonomous Community of Navarre in the corresponding categories of the national phase of competition, which will take place at the Public University of Navarre from July 2 to 4.

In the category of high school program, the winners were Ana González and Javier Salcedo, from IES Benjamín de Tudela, for the work 'La paradoja del cumpleaños. Study of the probabilistic problem'. They have been tutored by Juan Carlos Ballabriga.

In the category of 3rd-4th of ESO, the winning project was 'Is our third age at risk of withdrawal?', by San Cernin students Irati Castillo, Leyre Jiménez and Patricia Segura. Their tutor is Ana Arbeloa.

On the other hand, Aroa López, Alicia Orbara, Sonia Varea and Irene Bonilla, from high school Calasanz, were winners in the 1st-2nd ESO category for the work 'Rest, nutrition and sports in adolescents'. Antonio Yániz is their tutor.

Boosting statistics in the high school

result In the Navarre phase of the contest, 35 teams participated, of which eight from IES Benjamín de Tudela, high school San Cernin, high school Calasanz and IES Padre Moret-Irubide were selected. In their statistics projects they have dealt with issues such as alcohol in minors; rest, nutrition and sports in adolescents; and feminism in the home, among other topics.

The initiative is organized by the Data Science Unit of the ICS and the department de Estadística e research Operativa de la UPNA, with the partnership delInstituto de Statistics of Navarra (NASTAT), the department of Education of the Government of Navarra, the Sociedad Navarra de Profesores de Matemáticas "TORNAMIRA" - Matematika Irakasleen Nafar Elkarte and the delegation of the high school National Statistics Office (INE) in Navarra.

The submission awards table was made up by Jesús López Fidalgo (director of the Science Unit of data of the ICS and president of the Society of Statistics and Operational research ), María José Asiáin (director of the department of Statistics, Computer Science and Mathematics of the UPNA), Pablo Cebrián Jiménez (director of NASTAT), Rafael Rivera Martín (head of the Section of assessment and Quality of the Department of Education of the Government of Navarra), César Benjamin Berrade Ursua (INE delegate in Navarra) and Mª Ángeles Rodríguez Burgui (TORNAMIRA).
