The first work has just been published that compiles the joint history of advertising and Public Relations in Spain. Its authors are University of Navarra professors Mercedes Montero, Natalia Rodríguez Salcedo, Francisco Verdera, Jordi Rodríguez Virgili and Jorge del Río.

The goal of this publication -in two volumes and in color- is to bring to the academic field an integrated research of both disciplines, which did not exist until now. In Spain, unlike what happened in other countries, advertising and public relations developed together. Public relations were directed from advertising agencies or by professionals in that field. And sometimes they were hidden under names such as social advertising , educational advertising or prestige advertising .

This book is divided into two parts. The first Issue, From nothing to consumption, covers the origins of these disciplines up to 1960. One of its most interesting contributions is to reveal that the advertising world was probably the first professional sector to publicly denounce the autarkic regime of Franco's regime, as early as 1947.

The second Issue, La edad de oro de la comunicación comercial (The Golden Age of Commercial Communication), focuses on both activities when Spain had already forged a Western-style consumer society and its political regime had become a democracy. In this sense, the book gathers the political advertising campaigns developed on television, as well as the great prizes of advertising creativity that Spain conquered in the 80s and 90s of the 20th century. Good examples of all this are included in the DVD that accompanies this Issue.
