The running festival for children's cancer in Pamplona
The University of Navarra presents the IV degree program de los Valientes, organized for the benefit of "Niños Contra el Cáncer".
The fourth edition of the "degree program de los Valientes" will take place on February 9th, organized by the Sports Service University of Navarra. The solidarity degree program will be held for the benefit of Niños contra el Cáncer, the program of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra which channels the solidarity of individuals and companies and puts them at the service of research and support for children and families, so that they can access specific treatments.
At the presentation, the University of Navarra's Alumni Vice President , Tomás Gómez-Acebo, stressed that this event brings together sport, solidarity and participation: "The University of Navarra is an open campus , in the degree program take part teachers, students, employees and people from all over the city. We want everyone to be able to participate in the campus".
For his part, the president of the Athletics Federation of Navarra, Rodrigo Domínguez, said that it is "a fantastic and very well established project " and encourages the University to continue betting on it: "It gives a point of sensitivity that is needed in the day to dayin society".
Likewise, Pilar Lorenzo, manager of Niños contra el Cáncer, emphasized that "thanks to this degree program it is possible to improve research and treatment".
The event was also attended by Miguel Bados, director of Communication and Marketing of Corte Inglés; Pedro Tourón, director of Campus Home; Fidel Medrano, director of Club Atlético Osasuna; Xabier Larraya, director of Osasuna Marketing; as well as "Rojillo" and "Rojilla", the team's mascots.
Five tours for adults and childrenThe degree program is open to all ages and offers five different routes. Children can register in the 800 and 1500 meters, and adults in the categories of 5 and 10 kilometers, and 5 kilometers walk. In addition, there is the option of collaborating through the "Dorsal Zero" for those who can not attend to the competition. This year, in addition to the novelty of the 5 kilometer walk, there will be new routes and the bibs will have a chip incorporated to measure the times in the 5 and 10 kilometer categories.
The circuit, designed by the Navarra Athletics Federation, will be located within the campus of the University of Navarra. Registrations are already open and can be made through the website of the IV degree program of the Brave.In the previous edition, 1,832 people registered and managed to raise 16,342 euros to fight against childhood cancer. On this occasion, in addition, Campus Home will add one euro per registration.
Childhood cancer continues to be the leading cause of death by disease in children in developed countries. Around 250,000 new cases are diagnosed each year worldwide. Since 2002, Niños contra el Cáncer has allocated more than 2,428,671.15 euros to research projects and the treatment of 31 children with cancer. In order to finance research and the treatment of children suffering from tumors, it channels the solidarity of individuals and the social commitment of companies and institutions.
