The first international edition of the Sector-Specific Alumni Events took place on May 21 in London with the “Finance & Consulting Sector-Specific Alumni Event,” a meeting drew more than 50 registered professionals from the Schools Economics, Engineering, Communication, and Law, who are now working in the fields of finance and consultancy service.

The workshop, held at One Moorgate Place, combined discussion, reflection, and specialized networking in a format designed to foster valuable professional connections and the exchange experiences among attendees with similar backgrounds and interests.

The meeting with a conversation between Antonio Moreno (ECO'97), Dean the School of Economics, and Santiago Corredoira-Jack (GEMBA'11), a global investor and corporate development executive, who spoke about his professional career, his time at Google, and his perspective on the skills the job market demands today.

During the session, Corredoira-Jack emphasized that “this is a great time to start a business” and encouraged attendees to develop a broader vision of their professional growth, going “beyond just work.” Among her key recommendations, she emphasized the importance of working with artificial intelligence—“it’s here to stay”—strengthening communication skills, and stepping out of one’s comfort zone through small daily challenges, such as talking to a stranger at least once a month.

One of the central elements of the workshop the thematic networking sessions, a key feature of these industry-specific events. During the registration process, each participant chose one of the four available areas based on their professional profile interests: Consulting & Strategy; Investment Banking & Markets; Private Equity, Venture Capital & Asset Management; and Fintech & Innovation.

These sessions, organized in small groups, allowed attendees to meet other professionals working in the same area, expand their network , and share experiences, challenges, and perspectives on the sector’s evolution. The format fostered more intimate and specialized conversations, creating an environment conducive to identifying professional opportunities and building connections among alumni with shared interests.

The workshop with a cocktail reception for all attendees, providing an opportunity to continue the conversations started during the sessions and enjoy a more relaxed time together among professionals and alumni. As one of the participants remarked at the end of the meeting, “The best part was discovering how many people from the University are working in London—people I probably wouldn’t have met otherwise.”
