The School of Nursing celebrates the awarding of the highest academic honor to American professor Dorothy Jones. Her career and her close partnership more than two decades have been fundamental to the development research internship at our center and at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra.
To mark its 75th anniversary during the 2027–28 academic year, the University of Navarra has announced that it will award doctorate to five prominent figures in the academic world, including Dorothy Jones. The ceremony to submission —the institution’s highest distinction—will take place on October 15, 2027.
The School’s Perspective: Recognizing Excellence
For Ana Choperena, dean of the School of Nursing, this proposal from a desire to recognize an staff professional career and staff that has left an indelible mark on both international nursing and the development of the School and the Clínica Universidad de Navarra CUN).
According to the dean, the news was received at the school with “great joy, deep pride, and enormous gratitude toward the University.” Choperena emphasizes that this award an explicit endorsement of the academic and scientific standing of nursing and a “boost of energy” for the entire team professor, researcher clinical staff. A life dedicated to development
Dorothy Jones is a professor emerita at the William F. Connell School of Nursing atBoston Collegeand a senior nurse scientist at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in Boston. She plays a prominent role in the development nursing worldwide and has maintained close ties with the University of Navarra (School of Nursing CUN) for more than 20 years.
Her partnership in June 2000 when she was invited by Professor Maribel Saracíbarto an congress organized by what was then the School of Nursing. Since then,she has advised on update the curriculaand has witnessed the progress made in the postgraduate program training postgraduate program.
A Champion of Nursing Science and accreditation
Professor Jones has had a decisive impact on the implementation of Master's Degree doctorate programs, advancing nursing science to improve care for patients and their families.
