Architecture students from eleven universities are working on proposals in the Chiva area for the area by the DANA.
The project part of the Foro América, a partnership agreement the Pan American Federation of Architects Associations and the University of Navarra, in which the Polytechnic University of Valencia participates.

The increase in flooding is one of the phenomena most closely associated with climate change, an event that forces us to think about new ways of living, planning, and managing the territory. Faced challenge this challenge , the University of Navarra has promoted the project agreement the Pan American Federation of Architectural Associations (FPPA). The exercise, which has also been joined by the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), will be developed in COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) format and is called "Architecture & Water."
Each university has chosen an area of their country affected by flooding to carry out their proposal , taking into account the specific characteristics of the terrain. In the case of the two Spanish universities, the area chosen is Chiva, one of the municipalities most affected by the cold drop that devastated the Valencian Community in October 2024.
The presentation the exercise was held jointly on January 8 at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, followed by the students attended a session on how the DANA was experienced and managed in the municipality position Ernesto Navarro, mayor of Chiva, and José Grau, municipal architect, who presented the exercise "Architecture & Water," in which they will work on proposals to improve the status of the Calicanto urbanization in Chiva (Valencia).
"More than a year after the disaster, there is still much to be done, and our proposals can help in the decision-making process to continue improving the status the residents. Visiting the affected areas financial aid the importance of designing spaces that take these situations into financial aid ," explains Gonzalo García de la Garza, a fourth-year architecture student.
Nine international universities are participating in the exercise: the Universidad Privada Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Bolivia), the Universidad Latina de México, the Universidad Católica Santa Fé and the Universidad de Mendoza (Argentina), the Universidad del Istmo (Guatemala), the Andrés Bello Catholic University (Venezuela), the Santiago Antúnez de Mayolo National University (Peru), the Latin University of Costa Rica, and Univates (Brazil).
