Double Degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry , a novelty of the University of Navarra for the next academic year.
The degree program, a pioneer in Spain, will offer training in biomedicine and biotechnology, oriented to the world of industry and research
The School of Sciences of the University of Navarra will launch, next academic year 2011-2012, the double degree program in Chemistry and Biochemistry , the only one of its kind in Spain. The new Degree aims to give the student a more complete training in these two fields, which have a high demand for experts in Biomedicine and Biotechnology, both in the health sector and in industry.
The double Degree will consist of 369 ECTS credit spread over six academic years. After the first four, the student will receive the degree scroll of Chemistry, and at the end will also receive the Biochemistry .
Aimed at Spanish or foreign students of the natural and health sciences -with basic knowledge of Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Biology- the new degree program will focus on subjects related to Chemistry and Biochemistry with application in Biomedicine. Likewise, work and research will be promoted at laboratory, the capacity for observation, analysis and synthesis, the entrepreneurial spirit and the habitual use of English as a common language in the world of research.
According to the Dean of the School, Professor Ignacio López-Goñi, the profile of the prospective students of this double Degree "is that of capable and motivated students, willing to make an extra effort of dedication to take subjects from both disciplines, knowing that this will provide them with an extraordinarily complete training to face a job scenario where their specialization is already being highly valued".
employment opportunities "x2"
Regarding the employment opportunities of future graduates in Chemistry and Biochemistry , Professor López-Goñi stresses that with the double Degree the training of both degrees is reinforced, since it comprises the competencies and employment opportunities of the Chemistry together with those of Degree in Biochemistry , especially in its biomedicine pathway: "This is a well-designed program, which allows students to finish their university programs of study with a double degree program in two complementary areas and to acquire the appropriate knowledge to develop their professional future in any of the two fields, especially in the area of research (biomedicine and biotechnology), healthcare and industry".
In this sense, future graduates will also be able to work in chemical analysis services, environmental auditing, quality and safety, treatment of pollutants, etc. "And in the teaching, both in high school program and in training professional, Degree or postgraduate program university," concluded the Dean of Sciences.
