Five Pharmacy graduates from the University of Navarra have been among the first 100 places in the Resident Pharmacist Intern exam (spanish pharmacy residency program ). They are Leire García López from Navarra -issue 16-, Mª Blanca Guembe Zabaleta from Navarra - 27th place-, María Romero González from Málaga -issue 39-, Aritz Merchán Flores from Navarra - 59th place- and Daniel Lorca Arce from Cantabria - 64th place-.

In addition, Carlos Ignacio Díaz-Calderón Horcada from Zaragoza was ranked 140th, Jaime Ignacio Sainz de Medrano Sanz, from Calahorra, was ranked 225th and Cristina Tapiz Erro from Navarra was ranked 245th. In total, eight graduates from the University of Navarra obtained one of the 267 positions offered for specialists in hospital centers in this edition, to which 1,582 candidates applied.

Despite the impact of the pandemic on the decline of spanish medical residency program and EIR candidates, the spanish pharmacy residency program had 133 more candidates than registered for the 2019-2020 call.

Hospital Pharmacy: goal clear
Leire García, issue 16 at test, and a native of Tudela, has no doubt about which specialization program she will choose "Without a doubt, I would like to do Hospital Pharmacy. This specialization program is exclusive to Pharmacy graduates and consists of prescribing medicines, design of medicines and preparing them to be given to the patient. It is the one that most appeals to me and where I fit in best". Leire attended an academy in Madrid to prepare for the exam.

Her classmate Mª Blanca Guembe -issue 27-, a native of Artajona who also opted for Hospital Pharmacy, highlights the time invested in preparing for the exam: "I decided to take a distance learning program, which began in September and ended in November. Once I finished it, I dedicated myself to studying from Monday to Saturday, about 8 hours a day. As the date of the exam approached I saw that I was not able to review all the topics, so in January I incorporated Sundays to my study plan to get the goal"
