University students are participating in 1,151 extracurricular academic internships this summer

More than 86% of internships take place in Spain (26.1% in Navarre and 27.3% in Madrid) and represent a first step into the workforce for many students

Between June and August, the University’s students have completed or are currently completing 1,151 academic internships, of which 86.1% (991) are taking place in Spain and 13.9% (160) in other countries. Of the internships in Spain, 26.1% are located in Navarre and 27.3% in the Community of Madrid.

Through the Internship Service and employment, the University promotes this off- classroom learning to guide students’ career paths, providing them with an initial contact with the work market.

By Schools and schools, the School of ScienceIssue leads in summer placements with 186 internships (16.1% of the total), followed by the School of LawSchool of Science (169 internships, 14.7%), the School of Economics and Business (143 internships, 12 . 4%), the School of Engineering (129 internships, 11.2%), and the School of Communication (114 internships, 9.9%).

Internationally, students have had the opportunity to travel to a total of 32 countries on five continents. Among the most popular destinations are Peru (19 students), the United Kingdom (11), Mexico (11), the United States (10), Colombia (10), Belgium (9), and the Dominican Republic (9).

Alfonso Vericat, director from the Internship Service and employment, states that "for companies, summer internships are particularly valuable because they allow them to identify talent in real-world settings; for their part, students develop and put into internship the professional skills they have learned at the university."

From nanoparticles for cancer treatment to the history of Carlism

Miguel Cayarga, from Asturias, a student in the dual-degree program Degree at Chemistry and Biochemistry , completed a research stay this summer at the University of Colorado in Denver (United States). His work at laboratory focused on the study of solid lipid nanoparticles and their potential application in cancer treatments. In addition to the professional learning, he highlights the staff impact of living abroad: “Being in Denver financial aid encourages you to question your preconceptions and get a closer look at the country’s everyday reality. I would recommend this experience to anyone; you don’t need a perfect transcript , but rather you should seek out opportunities, persevere, and dare to take the plunge,” Miguel concludes.

For his part, Iván Hernández Valls, from Navarre, who recently graduate earned a double Degree degree in History and Journalism, completed his summer internship at the Museo del Carlismo (Estella), an experience that has reaffirmed his passion for research, culture, and heritage. In his day-to-day work, Iván immersed himself in cataloging unique artifacts, attendance participating in restoration efforts, and preparing reports on communication and research historical research. “If there’s one thing I’m taking away from this summer at the museum, besides an incredible team, it’s the certainty that history is more alive than ever,” he concludes.
