Professor Ana Belén Martínez, PhD in Philology English, has result finalist among the best books in programs of study English books called by the biennial ESSE Book Awards 2022 with her publication New Forms of Self-Narration: Young Women, Life Writing and Human Rights (2020).
The competition, organized by The European Society for the Study of English, has recognized his monograph in the category 'Literature in English language '. The winners were announced at the end of August during a ceremony at the University of Mainz. Nominees are selected from among the best books published in the last two years by scholars of topic throughout Europe.
"This recognition has been an honor for me. We are many experts on programs of study English throughout Europe and to find me among such renowned colleagues is always a joy," assures Professor Martinez.
The project, which saw the light of day first as numerous articles in impact journals and finally as a monograph in the midst of the pandemic in 2020, captures the phenomenon of young people in contemporary society, from many different places, using the English language as a vehicle of expression to reach increasingly dispersed audiences and have more impact.
Specifically, it analyzes "how girls who have suffered human rights abuses of different kinds subject, through the use of autobiographical and testimonial narrative, build a strong, activist identity that moves people around the world to action, going from being considered victims to self-constructing themselves as empowered survivors".
In the next edition of competition he plans to participate with his second book, which collects the narratives in English language of recent migrations in Europe.
