Classes begin at subject 'Nursing Care for Human Diversity'.

This is a new subject elective subject that is being offered this year at Degree in Nursing.

The 2016/17 academic year for the fourth year students of Degree in Nursing has begun with the inclusion of a new elective subject: Nursing Care to Human Diversity, a subject that will work the model of cultural sensitivity whose purpose is to make the student understand that culture is a complex construct of numerous influences that impact on the interaction with the person. It is intended that each student recognizes the mastery of his or her own cultural context when interpreting and interacting with others.

From the department of Community and Maternal and Child Nursing they have invited Professor Nisha Dogra, from the University of Leicester, who has also collaborated with the School in the design and implementation of the same, for the first sessions. "Specifically, she is going to go deeper into how to offer culturally competent care in this globalized society in which we are immersed," says Maider Belitxon, one of the professors in charge.

Nisha Dogra, in addition to teaching several classes, will have different meetings with professors that make up two of the four areas of knowledge that are part of the department of Community and Maternal-Child Nursing: Mental Health and Maternal-Child Health. The professionals will be able to exchange opinions, experiences and different ways of doing both at research and teaching on these aspects. Also the professors and doctoral students who make up the area of research "Health Promotion" have had the opportunity to share experiences of research, participation in European projects and the approach to certain topics that make up the area in the research with Professor Dogra.
