Itziar Irurtzun Arana, Tecnun'13, and Belén Pérez Solans, former student of the School of Pharmacy and Nutrition at the University of Navarra, delighted the jury last November with their business proposal and won the first award of the BINVAS 2017 competition (Bio Innovation Canvas). It should be noted that the award was awarded by Bic Gipuzkoa and the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, in the framework of a university contest that promotes the concern for innovation and the search for feasibility of new business ideas in the field of Biosciences.

The young women successfully presented 'Oncopred', an informatics platform that uses a patient's clinical, pathological and/or molecular characteristics to predict, through simulations, how the disease progresses under different treatments. Its value proposal focuses on the personalization of therapies and the detection and elimination of ineffective tests or treatments. Therefore, Oncopred would offer greater effectiveness in the application of therapies and a lower cost, as well as an improvement in the patient's quality of life.

It should be noted that this project arose at the group of research of Pharmacometry and Systems Pharmacology of department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology of the University, directed by Dr. Ignacio Fernández de Trocóniz, of which the young women are members. In fact, both are currently conducting the work analysis of the technical, commercial and financial viability of Oncopred.
