The exhibition 'Medicine and music through time', inaugurated at the Library Services de Humanities
It is organized by the Library Services, the project 'Emotional culture and identity' of the Institute for Culture and Society and the School of Medicine.
The exhibition 'Medicine and music through time' has been inaugurated at the entrance hall of the Library Services of Humanities and can be visited until the end of March 2016. The sample is jointly organized by the Library Services, the project 'Emotional culture and identity' of the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) - which finances Zurich Insurance - and the School of Medicine.
The exhibition reviews the relationship between music and health and disease throughout history. It is divided into four sections: The heritage of Antiquity; Music therapy in the Age average; The rebirth of music therapy in the modern world; and development scientific and music therapy: Balance and perspectives.
Antique instruments and books from the 16th to the 21st centuriesA total of 14 exhibitors are on display, including antique instruments from the collection donated to the University by the orchestra director . Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos and books from the 16th to the 21st centuries. In addition, it will be possible to listen to musical fragments through QR codes.
"On numerous occasions and in different eras, the influence of music has been appreciated both in the mental sphere and in the human body, and even in non-rational animals," says the curator, María Pilar León, professor of Medicine and collaborator of the ICS. In addition to her, the organization of the sample has been entrusted to the professionals of the Service of Library Services, María Calonge, from Archive; Rosario Lanz, from Media Room; and Inmaculada Pérez, from the Service's website.
From agreement with Professor León, the study of music and medicine is multidisciplinary: "It interests musicians, ethnography, history, Philosophy, literature, biology, medicine and psychiatry, pedagogy.... This is shown by the bibliography which is included in this exhibition".
The exhibition was inaugurated in November 2015 at the. Sciences Buildingframework during Science Week.
