In the week in which it celebrates its tenth anniversary, the University Museum of Navarra opens its 2025 performing arts season with the bequest of flamenco, this Sunday 26 at 19.30h. It does so with a journey through Spanish dance, which passes through tradition and reaches the avant-garde.
Tania Martín and Carlos Romero, together with Nexus Company bring bequesta show inspired by the history of flamenco, from its origins to its recognition as Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Tickets are still available at locker and the MUN website.
The proposal includes various palos: farrucas, guajiras, tangos, alegrías, soleás or bulerías blend with stylized dance, the bolero school and updated folklore. The dancer and artistic director Carlos Romero stresses the importance of bringing flamenco to all audiences subject : "This show is not only for those who already love it, but also for those who want to discover it for the first time. We seek to transmit its strength and cultural richness in an accessible and exciting way for everyone".
The music, dance and aesthetics of flamenco make up a total art, which has been growing and expanding all over the planet, to the point of dialoguing with other cultures: from blues and jazz to the most diverse folklore. "We want the public to discover our vision of the history of flamenco, an art that was born in a little-recognized corner and that, over time, has grown to become a universal cultural expression. Its music, dance and aesthetics have evolved and expanded around the world, transforming it into a total art form," explains Tania Martín, dancer and artistic director of this degree scroll.
Tania Martín and Carlos Romero graduated with accredited specialization of Honor and award Extraordinary from the Real Conservatorio Profesional de Danza Mariemma in Madrid. After six years in the Ballet Nacional de España, performing soloist and principal dancer roles, and having performed in the best companies in Spain, they decided to take a leap in their degree program and create their own project.
Currently, in addition to continuing to work as dancers, they direct the Professional Dance Studio Tania Martín and Carlos Romero, and the CDE Spanish Dance Company Tania Martín and Carlos Romero. Romero has been awarded the award international dance Capri in 2024.
"bequest is a reflection of our own learning. At the conservatory, you study all styles of dance before specializing. With this show, we wanted to capture that path, showing the complexity and beauty of the different styles that make up Spanish dance. It is a demanding proposal for the dancers, but deeply exciting and close to the audience", adds Tania Martín.
Nexus Company, for its part, returns to a stage it is already familiar with. The company is headed by Aitor Arrieta, principal dancer of the English National Ballet; Juanjo Carazo, dancer of the National Dance Company; and Daniel Vicandi, former professional dancer.
