Kimikarin Science Camp: fun science in summer for children from 8 to 14 years old.
Second edition of the camps organized by Kimikarin and the University of Navarra, which will take place in June and July in bilingual format.
Kimikarin UNAV -an initiative born from the partnership between group Kimikarin, the School of Sciences and the Science Museum of the University of Navarra- proposes for this summer the second edition of its summer camps Kimikarin Science Camp, aimed at children between 8 and 14 years old who are curious about science and want to learn basic concepts in a fun way.
Divided into 5 camps that will take place the 3rd and 4th week of June and the 1st, 3rd and 4th week of July, in their development the children will perform experiments, presentations, games, team dynamics and on the last day of the week, Friday, they will have to present a scientific challenge and solve it. Also, on that day they will close the camp with a Science Show and a snack.
With a schedule from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a price per week of 145 € -including all the material for experiments, etc.-, the activity will take place at the Sciences Building of the University of Navarra (in different laboratories) and at the Science Museum in small groups of 26 students.
In this second edition, the theme of the workshops will focus, per day, on five areas: super powers, water and air, light and color, molecules and sweets and Science Party. Likewise, the camps will be held in Spanish and English (with full classes in English language) and in English and Basque. This last option corresponds to the camp of the first week of July (from July 2 to July 5, which is a holiday in Pamplona on July 6 and has a lower price: 120 €).
work teamwork, imagination and creativityThe camps are coordinated by Cristina Sola, a professor at School of Sciences, and the sessions are given by members of Kimikarin -a platform to bring science closer to children and young people- and students from doctorate of Departments of Chemistry and Environmental Sciences of the University of Navarra. As Ainhoa Pipaón (coordinator of Kimikarin) explains, "these camps aim to awaken the curious side of children, allowing them to touch and enjoy science so that, through the "Learning by doing" methodology, they can assimilate concepts of Chemistry and science in general".
"The fact of having qualified monitors in scientific-technical and educational aspects is another point core topic in our camps", adds the manager. The professor of Chemistry Cristina Sola also highlights that in the camps "the children develop valuable personal skills such as work in a team, imagination and creative capacity, while they assimilate and internalize concepts such as acid-base reactions, what is precipitation, reduction-oxidation, what defines a catalyst, reaction speed or activation energy".
