This year marks the fourth centenary of the canonisations of Saint Isidro Labrador, Saint Ignatius of Loyola, Saint Francis Xavier, Saint Teresa of Jesus and Saint Philip Neri. In this context, on 16 and 17 June, the internationalcongress "Teresa of Jesus and her bequest: holiness and writing. 400 years since her canonisation".

The meeting was co-organised by the group of research Siglo de Oro (GRISO) of the School of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Navarra; and the project of research "Mulier fortis, mulier docta. Hibridismo literario y resistencia en las comunidades carmelitas posteresianas de los siglos XVI y XVII (CARMEL-LIT)" of the Complutense University of Madrid; in partnership with the Centro Internacional Teresiano Sanjuanista (CITeS)-Universidad de la Mística.

Directed by Ignacio Arellano of the University of Navarra and Esther Borrego of the Complutense University of Madrid, the programme of congress included seventeen papers by researchers from Germany, Spain, the United States, France, Italy and Mexico. Among the speakers were Carlos Mata, from GRISO, who spoke on "Santa Teresa de Jesús in contemporary Spanish narrative fiction: El castillo de diamante (2015), by Juan Manuel de Prada"; and Fermín Labarga, from group of research Trento en el mundo hispánico (TrentUN), whose discussion paper was degree scroll "Protocolos de santidad. The place of Saint Teresa in the great canonisation of 1622".

visit The academic sessions of congress were completed with a visit to the monastery of the Encarnación de Ávila (Discalced Carmelites), where Saint Teresa lived for almost three decades.
