"If more universities offered the option of combining programs of study and sport, fewer students would leave".
The Erasmus+ AGM+ Program has been presented at the University of Navarra, the only Spanish center that is part of the initiative.
"The goal of the Erasmus+ AGM+ Program is that university students can study and play sports and that universities help in this double effort," said Gonzalo Corrales, director of AGM(Athletes Global Management) at the University of Navarra during the presentation of this initiative. He also pointed out that "if more universities offered the option of combining programs of study and sport, fewer students would leave".
The event was also attended by Susana del Río, director of the Erasmus+ AGM+ Program, who explained how this project was born: "For some years now, the Erasmus program needed to go a little further, an axis that could act as a catalyst, and sport seemed to us to be one of them".
On the other hand, he defended the need for young people "tobe able to look at Europe and reinforce the European feeling", as Erasmus+ AGM+ seeks to reinforce the sense of European citizenship through the academic training linked to sport. With this project, students will be able to find European universities where they can combine the sport internship of high performing with programs of study university, receiving support, flexibility, scholarships and other benefits.
In this sense, Tomás Gómez-Acebo, Vice President of Alumni of the University of Navarra -the only Spanish center that is part of the Program-, has assured that "the University of Navarra wants to be international and Erasmus+ AGM+ will be an opportunity for more European students to come here and for more of our students to travel to Europe".
For his part, Javier Trigo, director of the University's Sports Service , presented the Sports Talent program, which this year will benefit 85 students.
The ceremony at presentation was attended by Carmen Alba, Government Delegate; Paul Schröder, Honorary Consul of Germany in San Sebastian; and Ángel Tellechea, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland in Navarre, the Basque Country and La Rioja, among other personalities.
