On the occasion of the appointment of A Coruña as the headquarters of the AESIA (Spanish Agency for the Supervision of Artificial Intelligence), the Alumni Association - A Coruña of the University of Navarra organized on May 11 an informative lecture to learn about the challenges and impact of Artificial Intelligence. The session was given by the expert Amparo Alonso Betanzos, professor of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence and assistant to President for Artificial Intelligence at the University of A Coruña, and member of the Scientific committee of high school of Science of the data and Artificial Intelligence of the University of Navarra.

In front of more than two hundred alumni and friends of the University, in the auditorium of the Barrié Foundation, the expert explained what Artificial Intelligence is, how it affects us and whether it is regulated from an ethical point of view. Betanzos stated that society is being transformed by Artificial Intelligence, it has an impact on our daily lives and that is why it is necessary to have a mechanism to regulate it. This will be the task of AESIA, which will be responsible for promoting reports, quality seals, advice and observatories to monitor the practices of Artificial Intelligence.

Betanzos assured that the benefits of this technology outweigh the risks, and made a call to "get busy, but not worry". In response to questions from the audience about the work jobs that could disappear, the professor said that this is a reality, but that new ones will appear. She also acknowledged that it would be good to promote the learning of digital skills from Education Primary.

The board Alumni - A Coruña is made up of alumni volunteers who get involved to act as a bridge between the alumni community in the province and the University. It is in charge of promoting training and networking activities, as well as strengthening the network of alumni in the city.
