More than 100 national and international specialists in chromatography and related techniques will meet between today and Friday, October 25, at the XXIII annual congress of the Spanish Society of Chromatography and Related Techniques (SECyTA) to be held in Pamplona. The event is organized by the society itself and by professors from the School of Pharmacy and Nutrition of the University of Navarra.
Chromatography is a technique for the separation and analysis of complex mixtures based on differences in the rate of displacement of components through a medium and driven by a liquid or gas. This technique is widely used in Chemistry, biology and environmental sciences to identify, quantify and purify substances such as proteins, drugs or contaminants.
This hundred or so experts will have the opportunity to present and learn about the latest research in the field. "The participation of both national and international speakers, together with representatives of companies that will present new technological solutions, will create spaces for the discussion, reflection and the development of new initiatives of research and partnership", explains Dr. Elena González Peñas, professor of the School of Pharmacy and Nutrition.
Young researchers, protagonists
During the meeting, a special welcome will be given to researchers in the early stages of their degree program, who represent the future of science in this field. "We trust that these conference will provide them with new perspectives, points of view and contacts that will be valuable for their professional careers," comments Dr. Elena Lizarraga Perez, also a professor at School of Pharmacy and Nutrition.
The XIX José Antonio García Domínguez Awards, which honor the most outstanding scientific work presented by young researchers in the field of chromatography and related techniques, will also be presented. These awards pay tribute to Prof. José Antonio García Domínguez, who was researcher of the CSIC, a pioneer in gas chromatography in Spain and one of the founders of group de Cromatografía y Técnicas Afines, currently known as SECyTA.
