The University of Navarra has presented the X of Telenatura, International Television Festival for the knowledge dissemination and Conservation of Nature. It has done so in a special way, with a falconry exhibition, in position of the falconer Javier Castillo, which has been carried out inside the Sciences Building Sociales. The event was attended by the directors of the festival, Santiago Echeverría and Bienvenido León, together with the dean of the School of Communication, Mónica Herrero.

The competition, organized by the School of Communication of the University of Navarra and the Pamplona Planetarium, will be held between October 25 and 28 in both centers.

A total of 105 works from 21 countries have been submitted to the Festival , from which 22 finalists have been selected, distributed in the categories of documentary, reportage, amateur production and NGO. Among them there are from American, European and Asian superproductions, to works by NGOs and young filmmakers who are just starting out in the field of documentaries on nature and the environment.

According to Santiago Echeverría, co-director of the competition, "this year we have clearly perceived what has been called the democratization of production; that is, the equipment costs less money and this has helped to increase the quality of amateur works".

For his part, the other co-director of the festival, Bienvenido León, explained the different activities this year. As a novelty, the screenings will be in high definition, thanks to the partnership of the business Christie. "This year we will have the opportunity to see films from other countries, of exceptional quality, and some very different from what we are used to seeing," he said.

Workshops on environmental journalism and documentaries

In addition to these screenings, two training workshops will be held for students and professionals interested in this area of audiovisual production. The first one will deal with "Environmental journalism" and will be given by José María Montero, environmental journalist with more than two decades of experience and director of the program "Espacio protegido", of Canal Sur Televisión.

The second workshop has the degree scroll: "Production and realization of documentaries on nature. The Nautilus style". It will be given by Jan and Melanie Haft, founding partners of the German production company Nautilus Films, one of the most awarded international production companies.

The Telenatura 2011 program also includes screenings for secondary school and high school diploma students, which will be held at the Pamplona Planetarium. The submission of awards and the screening of the winning film of the City of Pamplona award for the best film of the festival will take place on Friday 28th at 19.30 h. in the Planetarium.
