work Juan Pablo Dabdoub and Apolinar Varela, from the University of Navarra, have conducted a field study in Argentina to analyze Education in values in two secondary schools, one public and the other denominational, supported by organizations and aimed at students from class leave .
This field work is the third and last one they have conducted on the framework of the project 'Investigar y promote la Education del carácter en escuelas de secundaria en Latinoamérica', developed jointly by the School of Education and Psychology and the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) and funded by the Templeton World Charity Foundation. The other two were in Mexico and Colombia.
"In the schools we have perceived a great interest in issues related to Education character. They consider it very necessary," says Juan Pablo Dabdoub. Specifically, he affirms that in the school he visited "they even considered it as an indispensable base to build the rest of the areas of Education".
However, he stresses that "teachers do not see themselves as capable of performing this task: they do not know how to achieve it. In addition, they have too little time to devote to this task or any other that is not specified in the curriculum school".
Apolinar Varela adds that the Education of character in that country faces great challenges not only in the formative area, but also socially and economically.
Juan Pablo Dabdoub emphasizes three priorities: "Firstly, there must be a agreement educational , political and social agreement on what we want to achieve and how we intend to achieve it; secondly, we must study and identify the specific needs in each school in order to achieve the planned goal ; and thirdly, we must carry out a medium and long-term resource investment plan deadline in order to address - as far as possible - the needs identified in the educational institutions".
