Artificial intelligence to predict tumor growth or response to genetic testing
The Full Professor of the University of Navarra Jesús López Fidalgo researches in the USA, thanks to a scholarship Fulbright, statistical models that could improve the efficacy of cancer treatments.
Developing artificial intelligence tools to predict tumor growth or the response to genetic analysis. This is the goal of the research carried out by Full Professor Jesús López Fidalgo, director of the Institute of Science of the data and Artificial Intelligence (DATAI) of the University of Navarra.
The expert is currently at department Biostatistics at the School of Public Health of the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) working on a project focused on the use of Artificial Intelligence applied to medical needs. The stay began last January and will last until March 31 thanks to a Fulbright grant. scholarship Fulbright.
The Full Professor of the University of Navarra is investigating the development of a statistical model generated by Artificial Intelligence that could predict the possible growth of a tumor in patients or the response to a genetic analysis thanks to an optimal processing of information from previous patients. This analysis allows to reduce the resources to obtain data, which means an improvement in the results.
Reduce resources and save time
"Thanks to this selection of information, AI generates algorithms that form the best possible model to help predict the patient's response to a genetic analysis. In this sense, it could reduce the use of resources and save time in medical therapy."
Fulbright grants belong to one of the most widely recognized grant programs in the world. Its goal is to strengthen the relationship between the United States and other countries and to consolidate the joint work between international centers of research.
On the occasion of his stay, the researcher of the University of Navarra has received an invitation to publish an article with the main conclusions of the research in Annual Review of Statistics and Its Application, the scientific journal issue one in the category "Statistics and Probability" according to the Journal Citation Reports. Jesús López Fidalgo is working together with Weng Kee Wong, a renowned biostatistician who did his doctoral thesis with Dennis Cook, researcher famous for the development of the popular Cook's distance used in machine learning, a fundamental part of AI.
