Next academic year 2020-21, the University of Navarra will launch Essentials, a program of training to improve the employability and professional profile of students. Coordinated by Career Services School of Philosophy and Letters will be the first to implement the program, in which students from all courses will be able to participate. The Career Services team at IESE Business School was consulted for development. "We saw a lot of value in their Essentials program and decided to adapt it for all Degree students at the University," said Roberto Cabezas, director of Career Services at the school.

The Essentials program consists of four phases, which will be developed throughout the four academic years. At each level, students will participate in two types of activities: training sessions to acquire the necessary tools to search for employment and to face selection processes; and training sessions on the main skills that companies are currently looking for (self-knowledge, management of conflicts, decision making, effort capacity, initiative...). "The labor market is in continuous transformation and the University wants to prepare its students as well as possible to successfully face the leap into the professional world," explains Roberto Cabezas.

Tu&Co, professional competency consulting with mentors

For his part, Nacho Gil, director of development of School of Philosophy y Letras, points out that, for several years, " School has been working with Career Services in the development of actions that improve the employability of its students. The Essentials program will allow us to organize these actions, incorporate some new ones and progressively sequence the students' learning". He also explained that, in addition to the new activities and sessions scheduled throughout the year, "students will benefit from special advice, as the School will reinforce Essentials with a third line of work, which complements the Tu&Co program training in professional skills and which is developed in partnership with mentors".

Participation in the Essentials program is voluntary and complementary to the academic training . In the future, it is intended that the rest of Schools and centers join this transversal program, so that more and more students of the University can enjoy it.

According to the QS Graduate Employability Ranking 2020, the University of Navarra is the first university in Spain in terms of employability, for the fourth consecutive year. It is ranked 71st out of the 750 universities in 73 countries analyzed. On the other hand, the University ranks third in Europe in teaching, behind the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, according to the latest ranking of The Times Higher Education.
