A lecture will analyze tomorrow, Wednesday, September 26, the most outstanding mythological works of the Prado Museum. The activity is organized by the Museum of Navarre and the project 'Creativity and Cultural Heritage' of the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) of the University of Navarra. It is free and open to the public until fill in capacity.
The speakers are the authors of the book 'Los mitos del Museo del Prado': Miguel Ángel Elvira, from the Complutense University of Madrid, and Marta Carrasco, from the Camilo José Cela University. In it they have analyzed the most relevant works representing scenes of classical mythology in the Prado Museum, signed by authors such as Titian, Veronese, Ribera, Rubens, Velázquez, Goya...
The session, which will take place at the Museum of Navarra, will be preceded by a visit-explanation of the mosaic of the fight between Theseus and the Minotaur, at position by Mercedes Jover, director of the Museum.
About the speakersMiguel Ángel Elvira Barba has carried out his entire degree program professor at the Complutense University of Madrid, where he is Full Professor of Art History. Between 1997 and 1999 he was also head of the Sculpture Conservation department at the Prado Museum, and between 2000 and 2004 he directed the National Archaeological Museum.
He has curated several national and international exhibitions, has published more than fifteen books and has written more than 150 articles, both on research and essay. Among his distinctions and titles are those of corresponding member of the Royal Academy of History, of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Seville and of the German Archaeological high school in Berlin.
Marta Carrasco Ferrer holds a PhD in Art History. She has been a full professor of Art History since 2001 and director of the department of Practicum of the School of Education and Health at the University Camilo José Cela. Her main line of research focuses on the collections of the Habsburgs, especially those of Emperor Charles V.
She has written about a hundred publications, including books and articles on her specialization program. She has curated several national and international exhibitions and has been a guest lecturer for different campus in the world such as the University of San Ignacio de Loyola in Lima, the Università degli Studi di Roma "La Sapienza", the Università di Palermo, among others. Since 2011 she is a member of the committee European Doctors and since December 2016, member of the group of research on women GENOVIFEM of the University of Navarra.
