Joaquín Sedano, new Dean of the School de Canon Law

The Chancellor of the University of Navarra, Bishop Fernando Ocáriz, has appointed Professor Joaquín Sedano as the new Dean of the School of Canon Law . position He replaces Professor Antonio Viana, who has held the position since 2012 and who will continue with his work professor and research at the academic center. He combines the position with the pastoral work he has been carrying out since 2011 as formator of the seminar Bidasoa International.

Joaquín Sedano was, since 2012, Associate Dean of research of the School. graduate in Law by the University of Jaén and in Canon Law by our University, he holds a PhD in Canon Law by the Pontificia Università della Santa Croce (Rome). He joined the University in 2006 as professor teaching assistant and since 2017 he is Professor of History of Canonical Sources and History of Canonical Institutions.

He is a member of the committee advisor of the International Society of Canon Law Medieval, since 2012; of the committee Scientific of the 'Diccionario Histórico de Canon Law en Hispanoamérica y Filipinas. Siglos XVI-XVIII', of the Max Planck Institute for Legal History and Legal Theory, since 2019; of the committee Scientific advisor of the journal Zeitschrift der Savigny-Stiftung für Rechtsgeschichte. Kanonistische Abteilung, since 2019; and senior member of the research center in History of the Canon Law of the Catholic University Pázmány Péter (Budapest, Hungary), since 2014. In addition, he has completed stays of research in Frankfurt, Bonn and Munich.

He is member researcher of project of research 'El carisma en la España bajomedieval: Gobernantes, ceremonias, objetos', belonging to Institute for Culture and Society (ICS), in the line 'Teología política del group Religion and Civil Society '. He is also co-author of the General Dictionary of Canon Law and author of numerous publications and book chapters.
