In the monograph, fruit of his doctoral thesis , he defends and explains the internship of transparency in the management of Church resources.
Diego Zalbidea, professor at the University of Navarra, has published the book "La rendición de cuentas en el ordenamiento canónico: transparencia y mission statement". Edited by EUNSA, the work defends and explains the need to manage the goods of the Church in a transparent way: "It is a very current topic , in which the Church and the Pope are making a great effort. Transparency can be considered a very evangelical principle, because our identity and mission statement must be reflected in any action, also in the way we manage resources," he explains.
As he assures us "it is not something that today's society imposes on us, often from an attitude of suspicion, but rather this internship responds in a very precise way to the vision that we in the Church have of the material resources that we use to carry out our work mission statement. The one who manages is not the owner but the administrator and therefore responds to the authority and to the faithful". In this sense, he points out that accountability, according to Canon Law, does not imply negative connotations: "It could be understood as a return, as expressed in the Latin term reddere, refund. The administrator of the goods of a public juridical person is not the owner, but they belong to the entity, therefore he 'returns' the accounts, so that the dynamic of the gift is not interrupted".
Zalbidea also explains that, throughout the book, reference is made to the North American experience in this subject: "Under the term Stewardship, the bishops and the faithful have been able to find a way of relating to the goods of the Church through an attitude based on gratitude for the gifts received. When we are accountable, we generate a culture of gratitude and we insert ourselves into the logic of giving, which provokes new gifts and greater involvement of the faithful in the Church's mission statement . I believe that this new mentality is a stimulus that can inspire a change in Spain and in Europe".
thesis The work, the fruit of his doctoral dissertation defended at the School of Law of the University of Navarra, is addressed to all those interested in the management of the Church's resources: "I hope that many young people can also read it, so that they can better understand how these goods are used in the service of their evangelizing mission statement ", he adds.
