A university professor has been named a full member of the Spanish Academy of Performing Arts

Juan L. Roquette R-Villamil, professor at the School of Architecture at the University of Navarra, has been named a full member of the Spanish Academy of Performing Arts (AAEE). This is an organization that recognizes academics with proven track records in performing arts specialties.

An architect and PhD graduate of the University of Navarra, Roquette is a professor of Scenography at the School of Architecture, where he teaches the subject ,” training design students design the creation of spaces for real-world environments, and the International Seminar on Scenography for architects, where he opens up new creative possibilities for Degree students Degree the performing arts.

His research career includes publications on spatial analysis in stage design—including studies on Puccini’s opera *Tosca* published by the University of Valladolid—and collaborations with institutions such as Rey Juan Carlos University, linking architecture with dramaturgy and theatrical space. This connection offers “a more interdisciplinary, more cultural, and more human perspective,” he explains.

Roquette also actively collaborates with the University of Navarra Museum, where he has served as coordinator and set design specialist on various productions and operas. His appointment strengthens the link between academia and industry, aligning training the skills and experience demanded by the sector. “It represents an opportunity to contribute, through architecture and research , to a broader reflection on the role of space in the performing arts and in the human experience,” he explains.

Founded in 2014, the AAEE is dedicated to promoting, defending, and elevating the status of theater, dance, circus arts, stage direction, music, visual arts, and all disciplines related to the performing arts in Spain.
