The School of Nursing of the University of Navarra bets on the training in Advanced Role

Experts from the U.S. and the academic center spoke about this new form of teaching in a course attended by more than 100 professionals and students.

The School of Nursing of the University of Navarra is promoting its training centered on the Advanced Role in Nursing, which focuses, among other objectives, on the development of research competencies, an expert clinical knowledge by the professional and the acquisition of skills to make ethical decisions.

This training innovation, widely implemented in universities and hospitals in the USA, attendance was the protagonist of the conference on Advanced Role in Nursing, held at the School and attended by more than one hundred professionals and students.

The participants have deepened, during two conference, in the Advanced Role and the internship Advanced in Nursing; knowing the experiences of implementation in other countries, the impact on the profession, the different nursing profiles in our environment, and how this training generates an environment of interaction and dialogue, etc.

Likewise, the specialists pointed out as a characteristic of the Advanced Role that it enables the professional to perform the functions of advisor, to collaborate and work with multidisciplinary teams, as well as to exercise transformational leadership in health systems through the application of the results of their research.

In this sense, Professor Vivian Donahue, advanced internship nurse in Cardiology at Massachusetts General Hospital (USA), emphasized that the experience of this training in her center, where it has been applied since the 1980s, has been tremendously positive: "We have 60 specialized clinical nurses who follow a program of continuous development , use of new tools, with forums of work, etc. ". "In addition," explained the expert, "the professionals are trained to collect data on pressure ulcers, falls, etc., and they propose improvements that are applied in the center".

Experiences
Also taking part in the conference were professors from the School of Nursing of the University of Navarra, such as Dr. M. Carmen Portillo, who spoke about how to promote the change to the Advanced Role at partnership with care nurses, supervisors and nurses; Dr. M.
