Two former students of Master's Degree E-Menu visit Cambridge

Both are currently doing their programs of study of doctorate at the University of Navarra and the University of Valencia.

The students of the III promotion of the European Master's Degree in Food, Nutrition and Metabolism (E-Menu) (2007/2008), of the School of Pharmacy of the University of Navarra, Mercedes Sotos Prieto and Paúl Cordero Sánchez, have coincided in the University of Cambridge, one of the most prestigious European university institutions, during their stay to obtain the degree scroll of doctorate.

Mercedes Sotos is doing her doctoral thesis at the University of Valencia, on the role of nutrigenomics in the prevention of obesity and cardiovascular risk factors; gene-environment interactions on intermediate phenotypes in Spanish population, based on the study of the per diem expenses Mediterranean as the most important environmental factor. During his stay at the Epidemiology Unit of the IMS (Institute for Metabolic Science) he collaborates in the project EPIC-NORFOLK (European Prospective Investigation into Cancer).

Paúl Cordero, on the other hand, is doing his thesis under the direction of Professor Alfredo Martínez and Doctors Javier Campion and Fermín Milagro, at the department of Food Sciences, Physiology and Toxicology of the University of Navarra. Her work focuses on the influence of maternal per diem expenses during pregnancy and lactation on the offspring, as well as on the epigenetic changes produced and the response to different diets of the offspring during their adult life. His stay at the MRL (Metabolic Research Laboratories) in Cambridge will allow him to further investigate intrauterine growth factors in transgenic animal models.
