Dr. Jesús San Miguel receives the award international Michaeli award for his contribution to the knowledge of myeloma.

The scientific director of the CIMA and director doctor of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra has been awarded at the framework of the congress International Hematological Diseases "Lymphoma and Myeloma" held in New York.

Dr. Jesús San Miguel, director scientific of the CIMA and director physician of the Clínica Universidad de Navarrahas received the award "The Michaeli Award" for his contribution to the knowledge of Myeloma. The act of submission of the award took place at the framework of the congress International Hematologic Diseases "Lymphoma and Myeloma", held on October 18 in New York. The award was given by Weill Cornell University and the SASS Foundation for Medical Research Award in honor of Dr. Joseph Michaeli, who passed away in 2001.

Dr. Michaeli was Professor of Medicine and director of the Multiple Myeloma Service first at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and then at New York Weill Cornell University. He was also director of research of Weill Cornell's Center of Excellence for Lymphoma and Myeloma.

For Dr. San Miguel, this award "represents an honor because of the name of the person to whom it is linked, a physician who combined the attributes of our profession: maximum dedication, eagerness to be up to date, feeling of inadequacy and maximum submission to the patient".

Expert in multiple myeloma

Dr. Jesús San Miguel is director scientist of CIMA, director physician of the Clinic and director of clinical and translational medicine of the University of Navarra. Specialist in Hematology, his professional development has been directed to the study of multiple myeloma, the biology of leukemic cells and their clinical-prognostic implications, minimal residual disease and hematological transplants.

Among the different awards and distinctions that Dr. San Miguel, member of CIBERONC, has received are the award Rey Jaime I of research medical (2013) and the award of the Lilly Foundation of research Biomedical (2014). At the same time, Dr. San Miguel is a member of the committee Scientific advisor of the Spanish National Cancer Research Center (CNIO) and committee publishing house of numerous scientific publications.
