The American Society for Bone Research (ASBMR) has awarded Dr. Fernando Lecanda, scientist at the research center Applied Medicine (CIMA) of the University of Navarra, one of the GAP (Grants in Aid Program), awarded to 20 international researchers. The goal of this financial aid is to consolidate the development of an ongoing research , in order to achieve innovative scientific objectives for an ambitious proposal to attract funding.

The $50,000 award is aimed at research on a prognostic factor and therapeutic target in a pediatric tumor. "The work focuses on the study of a protein recently identified in our laboratory that participates in the development of pulmonary metastases in pediatric osteosarcoma, the most serious problem associated with this disease. This finding was made possible thanks to funding from the association Española Contra el Cáncer (aecc). The scholarship granted by the ASMBR represents a boost to continue with the research towards the clinical improvement of these patients", explains Dr. Lecanda, manager of the research line in Adhesion and Metastasis of CIMA.
