The Revolutionary Politics of John Locke is the new book by Montserrat Herrero, professor of Philosophy politics and senior researcher at project 'Religion and Civil Society' of Institute for Culture and Society (ICS). The author gathers in this monograph the political debates around which the whole of Locke's thought is structured. The volume has been published by publishing house Tecnos.
John Locke is one of England's most influential thinkers. of the seventeenth century. The book follows the web of political debates in England in which Locke found himself embroiled and which he always contested with great strategic skill.
Specifically, the narrative of the book focuses primarily on three debates. First, the discussion on toleration in the wake of the possible succession of the Catholic Stuart line in the person of James II is analyzed. It also takes into account the discussion on patriarchalism arising from the civil service examination to the monarchical cause and the possibilities of a republican government that led to its support for the cause of William of Orange as the culmination of the Glorious Revolution against the Stuart monarchy. Finally, the third discussion revolves around the ownership and value of money in the wake of the financial revolution of 1690.
Montserrat Herrero is principal investigator of the project 'Religion and Civil Society' of the Institute for Culture and Society and professor of Philosophy Politics at the School of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Navarra.
